Florida announced a record rise of more than 15,000 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Sunday, as the Trump administration renewed its campaign for reopening schools and expected anti-mask demonstrations in Michigan and Missouri.

If Florida were a country, according to a Reuters report, it would rank fourth in the world for the most recent cases in a day behind the United States, Brazil and India.

Daily rises in Florida cases have now reached the highest daily number recorded by any European country at the height of the pandemic. It has also broken the record of 12,847 new infections in New York state on April 10 when it was the epicenter of the epidemic in the United States.
