Expert committee established in Coimbatore Forest Division to study elephant deaths

Following the deaths of many of the Coimbatore Forest Division’s elephants, including one that was shot down on Thursday, the Forest Department set up a seven-member expert committee to study the division’s elephant deaths over the past three years.

Principal Chief Forest Conservator and Chief Wildlife Warden, S. Yuvaraj, told the Expert Committee, which was chaired by Sheker Kumar Niraj, Additional Chief Forest Conservator (Wildlife), to send an appraisal report on or before 17 July.

Elephant experts Aiay Desai from Bengaluru, Sivaganesan from Chennai, C. Arivazhagan, Indo American Wildlife Society managing trustee in Chennai, veterinarians M. Kalaivanan, Theni & A. Chennai Predeep and D. The Committee members are Boominathan of the World Wide Fund, Coimbatore.
