The Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) has developed a new strategy for COVID-19 research in
India and in hotspots or clusters as well as large migration gatherings or evacuee centers.
The new COVID-19 research plan in India covers all symptomatic individuals who have undergone foreign travel in the last 14 days and all symptomatic contacts with reported laboratory cases.
This also includes all symptomatic healthcare staff and all patients with
serious acute respiratory illness such as nausea, cough, and shortness of breath.
Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a reported case should be checked once in his or her contact between day 5 and day 14 of arrival.
All symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose will be tested in a real-time polymerase chain reaction, Real-Time Reverse -Polymerase Chain Reaction or RRT-PCR within seven days of the disease in hotspots or clusters identified by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and in large migration gatherings or evacuees centers.
An antibody check will be performed after seven days of illness if RTR-PCR confirms it negative.
