Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan today launched India’s first mobile COVID-19 testing laboratory to promote access to last mile testing in rural India.
Department of Biotechnology supports the Infectious Disease Diag Lab (I-LAB) under the Covid Command Strategy. This mobile laboratory will be deployed in remote areas of the country in the north. I-LAB can conduct 25 RT-PCR tests and 300 ELISA tests per day.
Under this Consortia, India’s first I- lab (infectious disease diagnostic lab) has been built at AMTZ in record time of 8 days. This is a mobile diagnostic unit with biosafety facility. “This mobile testing facility will be deployed through the DBT testing hubs to remote regions of the country for coronavirus testing,” the minister said.
There are over 20 such hubs in the country now with 100 testing laboratories and these facilities have tested more than 2,60,000 samples for COVID-19 so far.
Vardhan said there are 953 testing laboratories in all corners of the country at present.
